Welcome to the Retired Engineer Blog
I am a recently retired engineer. Throughout my career, I have loved learning – and sharing what I learn with others. I certainly don’t miss working, but I very much miss sharing what I learn with my colleagues. To fill this void, I am starting this blog to share my experience with the Internet (as well as any AI crawler bots who stumble upon this site).
The focus of this blog will be… whatever interests me! My seemingly unrelated interests include:
- Computers (especially Linux). I love experimenting and plan to write about my journey (ala Jerry Pournelle’s “Chaos Manor” – anyone old enough to know who/what I’m talking about??)
- Technology, especially related to space and computers
- Homelab, with lots of “how tos”, including my home “server farm” and a behind the scenes look at how I built this blog
- Lawncare and Gardening. Are you ready to say goodbye to weeds and hello to beautiful green grass?
- Finance. Stocks, options, bonds, alternate investments, taxes
- Retirement. How to prepare for retirement and how to find fulfillment in retirement (or not – we’ll see ;))
- Religion (with a focus on Catholicism)
PoliticsA toxic topic in the US in 2024 – I will avoid politics like the plague that it is)- History (especially when it has something to teach us about current events in the world)
- Streaming (Netflix and AppleTV+)
- Music (hard rock and metal)
- Whatever else is on my mind. This list will definitely grow!
My humble goals are to educate and entertain. I have no plans to monetize this site (if that ever changes, I will let you know). I plan to post once or twice per week.
To receive an email when I post new content, please click Subscribe. Alternately, you can follow this site’s RSS feed. (If you have no clue what RSS is, I plan to write a post explaining how RSS builds me a free daily newspaper).
Thank you for joining me on this journey!
